I would love to do that. I am sure it would wake up my old bike.

I am not sure why folks are recommending racing carburetors for a stock KZ1000E. The bike has an 8500 rpm redline and runs in the mid-range most of the time. I prefer a set of non-pump VM26 carbs (that is what I am using on my bikes) as the smaller venturi enhances mid-range and they have great throttle response. My personal ride is a 79 KZ1000E1 and it is smooth through the entire rpm range and has good throttle response in mid-range where I ride most of the time.

29s wouldn't benefit a stock ST much, if at all, and would prove to be a money waster. 26s or 28s deliver all the gas in the rpm range that the ST operates in that the bike can handle. It wouldn't hurt to run 29s, only not be the best choice from a dollars standpoint. The RS series carbs would be a true money-waster and performce would suffer. I wasn't criticizing your choice of 29s as much as the comments about the RS series carbs. Check out the thread on the $1000 VM29 sale on eBay. Note that most of my 29s NEVER get to eBay as I have folks standing by ANYTIME I get a set ready to buy at my asking price which sure ain't $1000 hehe

Wow all of you have been really helpful and I greatly appreciate all that you have done I would buy a set of carbs off of you in a heart beat. now I ride mainly in the mid range like you said. But I have had that st to 11k rpm and it was still asking for more was just scared to give it being 30 yrs old.

How come no one likes the pump carbs? thats whats on my st and I love them just barely twist the gas and its got great power and very very peppy just crusin around i would think that the pump helps out with all that, so how come no one wants them

They are a bear to get right. I have spent all year tring to get mine right and over $300. I have never had this much trouble out of any carbs. Plus everytime I told someone what I had they would touch them. I have been told several times that those are the worst set of carbs to deal with.

We can rebuild and tune accelerator pump VM28s just fine. The problem is that the pump was put in place as a band-aid for over-lean jetting and must work correctly in order for the carbs to work correctly. The pump has some very small passsageways that want to clog if the bike sits and the diaphragms wear out so many of the pumper 28s we see coming into the shop have pumps that are not working. We clean and rebuild and they work fine again.
