I just purchased an 81 csr1000 the PO said the carbs where just gone through he worked at a large honda dealership and the bike was there so i took his word for it . the problem is it won't idle or the idle goes up by itself and takes awhile to come down . Does this sound like the intake manifolds may need changing or the carbs need synced ? The bike is stock with stock exhaust .

What I think is there is a vacuum leak somewhere either before the carbs or where they attach to the engine.

Get a spray can of carb cleaner and with the engine running spray the tubes/hoses around the carbs. If the idle goes up you have found the leak. Sometimes tightening the clamps or reseating the hoses will correct the problem.

check your fuel screws and see where they are set try them at 1-1/2 turns out if these carbs have plugs over them drill a 1/8 hole thru the soft aluminuim plug screw a wood screw into the plug and pull it out with a pair of pliers and then you will be able to access the screw check your setting, by the way the fuel screw is on the top of the carb in front of the diaphram.if you have problems finding it i have a factory manual that i might be able to scan and send to you. if adusting those screws don't help you probably still have some mung in those pilot circuits which means off comes the carb to be cleaned agained properly. because the problem your describing is happing because of a lean mixture in your pilot circuit. hope this helps your problem that will be 350.00 dollars thank you i'll take us or canadian or any left over j parts you have.

sorry i haven't got back to you i kind of lost track of your thread if readjusting the fuel screws didn't work and there are no obvious air leaks it still sounds like you still might have plugged pilot circuits get some good spray carb cleaner [ i like crc if you can find it ] and spray it thru all the passages and jets and blow thru them with compressed air until they come clean, remember to take the diaphrams out and not get any carb cleaner on them because the rubber will swell up badly. give that a try if you have any more probs e-mail me direct or phone me 1-780-835-6687 ask for tim after 4pm mtn.time. that is my office phone.
