Which carb goes where? was created by Maxwedge
I Got a box of 1980 KZ650 carbs and parts along with a parts bike I bought. Looks like most everything is there and I was going to reassemble the carbs, but realized I don't know which carb goes where in the set of four. I know this is pretty basic stuff but, I loaned out my maunal and I can seem to find a good close up pic, so if anybody has a link to a pic or diagram?

Max, along with fixers pic, here is mine which is a 1980 KZ650. Hope the two pics help, remember that (in both pics) the #2 carb has the vacuum source for the vacuum petcock. They pretty much only go on one way, with the middle carbs having left and right fuel transfer tubes and the outer carbs can only go one way for the same reason. #2 carb will have the pump and petcock vacuum source. Let us know...

its the easiest way to get years of crap out of them in my opinion. you do have to dissasemble them first remember. if your gonna do the rubber bits too youll have to put them in an enclosed cage in the cleaner because theyll float. make sure they go in a basket in the cleaner. i did mine at 120 degrees for about 2 hours. it is a branson unit large enough to put a bike engine in!!

Max. providing your' bits are just 1 set, this should help. 1st, fuel enters between carbs 2&3. so, fuel inlets to bodies 1 &4 are blocked to outside, thus id'ing them... bodies 2&3 can be identified by 1st, vacumn from #2 body to petcock, and 2nd, the atmospheric vent nipples (which at one time were connected between bodies on 1-2, 3-4 will be plugged between 2 & 3. easier still, if your' carbs have air screws, they will point out board. If I recall correctly there were 3 different carb types used on the 650, air screw, fuel screw, and both. whatever your' configuration, prove your' clean before re-assy,especially the passage from pilot jet to intake throat orifice. hope this helps G
