VM26SS question was created by sbulla
While checking over my '80 LTD I noticed that the accelerator pump rod had fallen off it's upper mounting (along side the return spring). It looks like it needs an E-clip on the shaft to keep it there but, I can't find it on the parts diagram.

I looked locally at some hardware places and can't find one small enough to fit the shaft.

Does anyone know exactly what kind/size of clip I need and where I might find one?

Sonny

Sonny, the smaller eclips are odd sounding numbers. I think it is a 2.3mm eclip that is needed but it may be a 3.2mm, the next size up. No idea where you can buy one of those... hardwares that specialize in fasteners might have them. E-clips go 2.3mm, 3.2mm, 4mm (don't know much about the sizes larger than that except there is also a 7mm). These are the sizes I stock for carburetor rebuilding.

So it does take an e-clip then. I couldn't make out any kind of clip on the parts diagram I have.

I picked up some today at an Autozone "Help" section that has some small ones in an assortment. Next time I'm in there, I'll see if they fit.

Right now I have it holding on there with some Hillbilly Engineering that I would be very embarrassed for anyone to see but, I wanted to ride. ;-)

Thanks for the reply,
Sonny

Actually, I don't THINK they came originally with e-clips. The tip of the spring holding fitting on the bell crank presses through the soft plastic ring in the pump rod. I have seen many that didn't have an e-clip installed and they stayed fine because the plastic was not worn. Once the plastic wears, an e-clip can be installed to keep the pump rod in place. I am not sure if Kaw originally installed e-clips or not for sure.
