pilot jet difference????
12 Sep 2008 12:40
Is there a big difference from 1 size to the next on jets, main & pilot?
My book says that my bike has VM24SS carbs.... with 100 main & 16 pilot stock.... I need to get biggers jets....I have seen people on the forum running 110 & 17.5....and some running 117.5 & 20..... i was thinking I would go with 117.5 & 20.... only because I already am at 16. i will be taking the carbs apart this weekend to check what is actually there but figured I would ask now, maybe order new jets this weekend....
I have 4 pods & kerker....
This sight is excellent..... so many people with so much good advice..... Thanks a lot!!!!!

As I recall, the number represents cross sectional area of the hole in the jet?

well it turns out I still have the 15 pilots but they changed the mains to 122.5.... I jumped the gun and ordered the 120's, but also ordered 117.5's.... not much $$ but maybe i can change my order????(Z1)
I am surprised about the 122.5's though, that seems like a pretty big jump... but seeing the stock 15 pilots actually makes me feel better, maybe that is the problem....I rarely had the bike totally opened up when I had the popping issues, maybe the 122.5's will be good with the 17.5's.....

You should use #110 mains and #17.5 pilot jets and reclip the jet needle to the 4th slot. The popping is due to poor combustion from either valves that are not adjusted or poor spark due to low coil voltages but the small pilot (#15 pilots used with pods) jets also contribute to the popping.
