ok just bought another bike.. yes thats 5 in like a year(but for a grand toatl of 2200 for all five) any way this was the most expensive one ($1000) so it has a wiseco 1075 kit and some 33 smoothies on it. the smoothies have no vacuum port on them and the manifolds don't either. how can i solve this? other than just bench sync. i already have the guage- what to do?

Learn to bench sync them OR buy a new set of carb holders and find an old set of VM26/VM28 style carb holders and rob the sync fittings. I did this but didn't use new carb holders and the old ones I used don't seal well so I don't use them.

Yeah, I saw that bike on CL. I thought about it. But I couldn't figure out a way to sneak ten bills out without Mrs. Skyman noticing it. :silly:

I'm glad it went to a good home. :)

can you use a unisynch type tool? like older car mechanics used on dual carbs. i know its more work and time but i dont know why that wouldnt work.

or is it possible to tap the carb holders for a vacuum nipple?

You can buy a carb sync tool that you use on one carb at a time. There are two different versions that I have seen but not sure who sells them. I think Orient Express sells them but not certain. Not sure if Schnitz Racing does or not. You just push the tool into the mouth of the carb to get the reading and move from carb to carb and get the setting right. Never tried it myself but I know that is a tool they use for this type of situation.

The 33's should have vacuum ports on the carb bodies, right? One is used for vacuum style petcocks. Won't those work for synchronizing? I'll double check mine when I get home in case my brain has frozen (again!).

This discussion has produced a lot of interesting info. I mentioned in my post that you can rob the vacuum fittings from old carb holders and put them in the new carb holders. The rubber is pretty tough but it can be done. I have done it. I removed the vacuum ports from the donor set and drilled holes in the new set and sealed them with RTV so they wouldn't leak... took me several hours. Problem was, I didn't want to mess up a new set of carb holders and used some older ones. They didn't seal and were too hard so the effort was a waste of time but I may try again with some new carb holders at some point.

I don't think there is a vacuum fitting on the VM33 assembly.

Last, you CAN NOT sync the carbs with a single gauge. They have a mechanical slide. When you change the slide height on one carb, the others change a bit. So you set #1 carb to 23 on the scale and 2, 3 and 4 change. You put your gauge on #2 carb and set it to 23 on the scale, and #1 changes (as well as 3 and 4). You go back to #1 and find it is now 18 on the scale while #2 is 23... you get the idea. All four have to be adjusted at the same time.

This is the fitting I was thinking of. 3 carbs have fittings, but are they overflows or what?? The one pictured looks a little different than the other 2 and sure looks like a vacuum port. Maybe there's just the one for vacuum petcocks and the other 2 are overflows?
