Petcock (pet cock...say what?) Question was created by badrhino
 Here is a picture of my rigged petcock. As you can see there is only one hose that is actually hooked up. The other one is blocked. And there is another nipple that is not being used.

How should this set-up look and can anyone tell me what each individual nipple actually is for?

I am running 29mm Smooth Bores:woohoo: on the bike if that makes a difference in hose lines being ran to the carb.

Do yourself a favour...get rid of that petcock and get one that's going to actually WORK for those smoothbore carbs.

The Pingel high-flow petcocks are pricey, yes, but so worth it.;)

Damn, that's about half of what I paid for the bike!

Anything cheaper, way cheaper?

Also, the petcock has On/Res/Pri on the dial. I read in another thred that this is a vacuum operated one, but there is no lines hooked up to a vacuum.:S

LOL...yah,I hear ya,but seriously...they're worth the money.

You could ask,and see what petcocks(single outlet) are compatible to your bike.
I'm sure someone here might have something for you...or Ebay?

The way your petcock is rigged should still work. There is no vacuum line hooked up currently, so you'd have to always run prime to get fuel. Also capping off a fuel line with a bolt is going to leak I would imagine. If it was me, being a cheapskate and all I cared was function, I'd get new 1/4 fuel hose, and run a short length of hose of each larger nipple, so the one that's capped off, plus the one with the kinked line. Run these two lines to a 1/4" T fitting and tee off a single line to your carbs, then get 3/16" line and take from one of the unused vacuum nipples on your 4 intake manifold rubbers up to the smaller nipple on your petcock. If all is working on your petcock, vacuum will be present with the engine running to operate the petcock as intended, and I doubt highly you'll starve for fuel unless you're getting <15mpg dragracing all day :)

All of my vacuum nipples are free to be used. Right now the number 1-3 nipples are tubed together and the 2-4 nipples are ran together as well. That is how it was when I bought it. This whole bike is somewhat of a nightmare but it is going to be sick when I get finished sorting it out.

Also my cock-pet says On/Res/Pri. Is there anyway to shut this off?

Sooo, you're telling me the petcock doesn't let fule flow unless there is a vacuum? The tank is off the bike now and there is gas running out the one hose. I don't understand.

Only on prime should gas flow all the time. In the on or reserve position gas should not flow unless vacuum is applied to the smaller nipple on the petcock. If gas flows all the time in the on or reserve, the vacuum diagphram in the petcock is bad. Only $10-$15 part.

My understanding is that with engine off (no vacuum), an internal spring and o-ring block fuel flow in ON and RES positions.

When functioning correctly, vacuum from running engine sucks the diaphram to overcome the spring pressure so the o-ring no longer blocks flow.

In PRI position, the spring and o-ring don't block the flow, so fuel flows through petcock regardless of whether the engine is running or not running.

Would assure the spring and o-ring are also in good condition.

Good Luck! :)
