The bs34ss you just purchased have a side pull choke?
They came this way on some years of the police kz1000.
Slide should move freely. If you lift it it should drop quickly.
If you lift it and cover the large port over the intake it shoul drop slowly.
GS1000 manual is here omma.edebris.com/manuals/
I'm trying to put together an archive of manuals so folks don't have to wait weeks to find a used paper copy.
Aside from jetting and the way the 'choke' rod 'user interface' is set up, i've not noticed any difference in these carbs on my gs1000 or kz1000p.

The carbs in your ebay link look just like the bs34ss setup on my gs1000gt
The carbs at buykawasaki.com link are for 87 police and look just like the carbs on my 87 police engine.
The two sets look the same aside from the choke pull mechanism.
