Has anyone had any luck with wrapping teflon tape on the fuel T's between carbs on a 73 Z1 as a permanent fix ? Just wondering if its worth doing or if Im better off buying new ones from Z1E. If so, how many warps around the T before pushing it back into the carb ? Thanks again for any comments on this as always. Ive got them out already

Hello,

I haven't tried teflon tape, what I did is cut a groove in the rubber where the bulge is about halfway up the tee and put an o-ring in that spot, sprayed some wd-40 on it and put it together. It worked fine, although I ended up buying two new tee's when I went through the carbs anyhow. I could probably dig up that old tee and take some pics if you like, although I don't know if it is worth the hassle if you are already taking the carbs all apart, I'd probably just buy new tee's at 15 bucks a pop.

Hope this helps,

Ben

I used teflon tape on the carbs on my KZ1000. It worked fine. I don't remember how many wraps I used, but I'm guessing around four. Just wrap it until it's a snug fit into the carb body.

I had a leak in the fuel T between my #1 and #2 carbs. Used two O-rings from my son's assortment of injector parts.

I remember seeing a package of injector system O-rings at Canadian Tire so any auto parts should be able to help you out.

Best of success.

i also had a leak in my carbs 2-3 T's o-ring when i first got my bike toghther
it was leaking all over my newley assembled bike!
i called up z1 and they were to much $$$$$ for one! and the straight ones where just a hair less!
after they leaked i went out agian later and tried it and they leaked, just not as bad then it went away and never leaked since
it must have been they shrunk down and dried out a little, and when the gas hit it they puffed back up and sealed agian. it took a little while (hour or two) but they dont leak anymore.
and i didnt have to spend $70 or so for parts
i read on here if you put rubber(intake boots) in tranny fluid it will make it softer, may even swell up to normal size and seal agian, but please confirm before you stick them all in the fluid. i dont want them to be eaten away or somthing!!!!!

IM going to try the teflon and check it off the bike while Im checking the float levels. If it works OK, if it dont Ill spend $30 for 2 tee's worth $5. At the rate gas was coming out I doubt theyd ever swell up that much to seal

I found the same thing. If I let the carbs set dry the Tees would leak for a few hours till things swelled up again. I like the O ring idea. Wonder how you might carve that notch evenly?
