i am going to rejet (bike has engo pods and a vance and hines pipe).i am going to go with 115 mains and 20 pilots and 3rd clip the needles. stock is 105/15...
my question is are vm 26 and vm 28 jets interchangeable?
clymer manual says my bike has vm26ss and everywhere i look for jets they say kz1000 77-80 and they have vm28 in the part numbers.....anybody have any idea?
the faintly stamped digits on the carb flange near the choke
are b8 and 1l or 1L. they are hard to make out....i have help coming in a week and a half and i want to make sure i have the right stuff.....thanks
......keith

The nomenclature for the pilot jet is VM28/486 for your VM26SS or any VM28 from 1975-1980. The nomenclature for the main jet is N100/604. ALL the jets that fit in any 1975 VM26 or VM28 will swap as they have the same configuration. The 1973/74 pilot jets used in the VM28SC Z1 carbs are NOT the same and will not swap. The thread on those pilot jets is in the wrong place and doesn't meet the thread in the holes of the later castings correctly. Last, put the clips on the 4th slot on your jet needles otherwise, the jetting is OK for your application.

Am not in wg's league, but do know that jet needle clip positions are counted starting from the top, so that the top groove is #1, then counting on down to the #5 bottom groove.

As known, the top #1 grove is the leanest fuel mixture setting because it allows the tapered jet needle to sit lowest in the needle jet. Accordingly, the bottom #5 groove is the richest fuel mixture position because it allows the tapered jet needle to sit highest in the needle jet.

The tapered jet needle, throttle slide, and throttle slide cut-a-way, work together toward regulating the air-fuel mixture in the mid-range between the pilot circuit and main jet. (That's over-simplified of course due to the transitions between the circuits).

Good Luck! :)

George, I installed the carbs you did for me on "oldkawsforever" bike. His bike was running poorly and he had to ride all the way back to Chicago.
Those carbs have been setting on a shelf for two years. I dropped the bowls and gave them a quick look over and installed them. You should have seen Jim smile.
He said,"It didn't cough one time".

117/20 on the jets. pods and header. I thought he might have to drop the needle one notch (i think it is on the forth) but maybe not. 900 engine.

It is good to have spares. Roy

I think I usually will drop the jet needle clip to the 4th slot on the 78 VM26s. How did the Mid-Ohio thing go?

It was great. Jamie was a lot better behaved this year.

I thought the attendance was down, but apparently not. There was overflow camping in the grass parking area.

I sold a 50cc honda and a rupp mini bike and gave a few parts away. I only carried two milk crates of parts.

It only rained for just a few minutes.

I got out more and the displays were great. I rode a ZX600R twice. I would like to have a new one but the older ones are more comfortable.

Gringo has several sets of pumper carbs for his 650'S
I have never worked on those type carbs. There was a couple of pieces missing on the set i looked at and i used the 26'S to get his bike started. He brought a regular set of 24'S the next day so he is good to go on that bike. Roy

bikes done and it runs great.....starts 1 st kick hot or cold....way more responsive and a lot more power....pulls great from the bottom all the way to redline....it had stock pilots with the needles clipped at the fifth position with mains that said 126 on them....i couldnt be happier with it.....
