Another Petcock Question - From KOOL RYDER was created by KOOL RYDER
I have a 78 KZ650B2. I have also reviewed the petcocks on the Z1 website, but I am a little aprehensive about installing a new one.

Can someone reccomend a new petcock that will bolt on without any hassel? I can measure the bolt distance.

I still have the stock petcock in place, but it is seized and I can no longer turn it to reserve position an I am interested in taking a long ride to the coast and could really use the peice of mind that the reserve will provide.

Rockin\' a KZ650B2 since 2007 and a KZ 1000E since 2008

If it's a shut off one (does not have a PRIme setting). Take the old one apart. They are pretty simple really. Usually a new O ring and some grease, clean the screen bowl and they are OK.

1978 would be the vacuum petcock. Easily identified by the fact there are 2 philips screws that hold a plate on the side that surrounds the petcock handle. If this is what you have, and the vacuum part of the petcock is not leaking, you can repair the seized handle real easily by simply removing the 2 screws, the handle comes right off, lube it up, maybe replace the oring, but may not even need that. This doesn't goof up the vacuum part, as no need to fool around with it at all if it's working. You'll have to drain the tank first of course. If you have the manual petcock, throw that POS away, no use even trying on it.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
