Must Remove Carb To Install Throttle Cable? was created by davehayward1
The speedometer and clutch cables were shot on my '81 KZ 750 LTD so I replaced them
I tried to replace the throttle cable and got stuck.
It looks like I have to remove the carb
Has anyone done this?
Can I do it without removing the carb?

Loosen the locking nuts on the rear cable mount and remove the cable from the bracket. That will give you enough slack to line the cable up with the slot to remove the barrel. I use a flat screwdriver to push it, pointed pliers or a set of hemostats. Once that is done the front is usually the same way. I find the back easier and ONCE done gives the front cable more slack. Your experience may differ! GLuck! B)

I have a 1980 750 4 cylinder and find it easier to take off the carbs to hook up or unhook the throttle cable. There is not much space in there :) I just have to pull them a tad back out of the carb holders to give me enough room to get fingers in there.

I do have pods which makes the job is a bit easier than if I had an airbox..

locozuna, I like your idea of using a hemostat. I should pick one up at my local surplus store

"whats a hemostst ? "

One of these thingies

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemostat

Looks like a scissors but instead of blades the ends are like needle nosed pliers and the gismo between the finger grips allows you to clamp it. Very usefull for working with tubing ;) ..... or I imagine working with throttle cables. I've often seen them in my local surplus store in the tools section.

Dats dem!!

Back in the day they were also called "roach clips". But I digress. They are pretty handy dandy things and come in all kinds of configurations.

I'd just like to take a moment here to speak about the astronomical cost of rolling papers and it's effects on todays society. Because of this incredulous scalping of prices the Hemostat industry has been set on it's head and the once thriving manufacturers of these medical and head shop items have been reduced to selling on ebay and reportedly being used by mechanics, model builders and tubing manipulators. Shame on us for letting this happen. I call on Congress to look into ZigZag, EZ Wider, Bambu, JOB, Juicy Jay's, Joker, and Rizla's pricing schemes before it's too late. B)

Hemostats are too useful as an all around tool, to be used as a roach clip...an alligator clip is a much better roach clip, cheaper also. Or just use a pipe:silly: :side: :woohoo:
