air box modification question.
04 Jul 2008 22:15
I have read about modifying the airbox on my 79 kz650c. But I cant for the life of me, figure out what the "free flowing filter" is. I have read that it is required, but I have no clue as to what it is, what it does, and where to get one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I will wager it is simply a filter with less flow resistance than stock. A foam cell filter typically would be less restrictive than a paper air filter.

There's an article in the archives which describes using a piece of plastic tube in the body in conjunction with a new hole. This is described as giving the motor as much air as it wants. Sorry, tried to find it again but my excellent aged long term memory screwed me yet again.

Here is the article in question (Making power with air) tinyurl.com/5fwqso , very interesting and simple! FWIW, K&N is the best filter, will cost you $30-$50 now but will be the LAST filter you'll ever buy. I paid $11 for mine 27 years ago and still using it!
