Carb help please! Leaking Gas was created by dfcm2003
Hi guys,

On my quest to fix up this kz650 78 C3 engine, I installed the carb today and put some fuel to it. and it poured gas, out of the small tips at the bottom of each carb.

I only have the engine, so I was assume these were vacuum lines, but I guess i was wrong. What do I need to do with this? Should I just tie them all together with fuel line?

Can someone please tell me how to hook up the fuel lines on this carb? is there just one or two lines that hook to the carb?

thanks for your time
Daryl

If you are gtting gas out the overflow pipes the float levels need adjusting. The float needles and seats may need to be cleaned or replaced.

Like BH said, levels and or needle valves are the most likely cause. Then install an inline gas filter if you don't have one or replace the existing one if you do.

If you are not sure what plugs where then you need a manual if you want the most out of these great bikes without too much out of your pocket. ;)

Let us know how it turns out.

Best of success! :)

thanks guys.

I got the motor running, I just had the fuel going into the vent hose. This is quite the challange with just a motor and no knowledge of this engine or bike at all. I have a 80' Shop manual that I downloaded of the internet that helps alot but it just said hook the carb lines back up. lol not much help there.

Your best friend should be Kawasaki.com:

BTW, the C3 is listed as a 1979 model and not a 1978... others here may know why.

Items 33 and 34 are the gas input... you probably could have used this a earlier... but for next time.

Best of success! :)

DFCM2003, those lines coming from the tips on the bottom of the carbs are overflows, nothing more. Too much gas in the bowls and it leaks out those overflows. What kind of petcock do you have, does it say pri (prime) on it? If it does its a vacuum petcock and theres a chance the diaphram took a crap and the petcock is allowing the gas straight thru. Theres usually one feed into the carbs from the petcock, in some cases 2. Find your first inlet from the petcock into the carbs, should be a fairly large nipple. At the base of that nipple should be a tube structure like thing(?) that feeds the gas into the other carbs. Look for another nipple. If it has 2 feeds youll see another nipple.
Pay attention to that tube, as the other guys mentioned, the float systems get their gas fed thru this tube. When you take the carbs off make sure you clean them and their flowing good.

All is well.

I went through the carb and the jets were dirty, and did the sync on the throttle slide. engine is up and running. I have no petcock, so its just a line from a Gatorade bottle with fuel. lol but its running good.

thanks
