Hi Everyone,
last evening I attempted to sync the carbs on my KZ1000 CSR using the guage set I recently bought at Z1 Enterprises. The process generally went well but cylinder #1 was slow to equalize... It will catch up to the vacuum reading of the other three, but when changing throttle position it lags by several seconds (2-3) before reading roughly the same reading. At idle all 4 carbs read within 1-2 Hg of each other. Revving the bike, 3 carbs change readings almost the same, but #1 does so slower, eventually getting to almost the same reading.
I checked the valve clearances a month or two ago, and all seemed to be in the normal range, but I haven't checked compression, thats my next task.
I think I might have a small vacuum diaphragm leak on carb #1 but will have to check further to confirm or eliminate.
For what its worth, the carbs were significantly out of sync before I started. 3 to 4 were only 2 Hg different from each other. #1 and #2 were ~5 Hg to each other but ~5 Hg different to #1 and #2.
Once put back together, the performance difference is very noticeable. The bike seems to rev freer and accelerates smoother, I just wonder whether getting the one slow carb fixed it will improve performance yet again.Does anyone else have a similar experience?
Grant.

Are you synchronizing them at 2000 rpm? I'm not sure if it can be set right at idle speed.Get a fan blowing on the motor to keep it cool and turn the idle up to 2000, then synchronize them.Sounds like youre on the right track with the vacuum leak on that one cylinder, spray some WD-40 around the intake boots and see if it draws it into the intake or not.
