I turn them in side out, so to speak.
Fold the end that goes on the carb back.
I also use a hook tool. Mechanics use this for taking
hoses off. It looks like a pick only bent at a right angle
at the end. Works slick most of the time.
After that it's a
job!!!!!!!
Thats why most go to pod filters and rejet.

The older the airbox boots are the harder they become.
You can boil them in hot water to get them to soften up for a short time, but in the end it is best to buy new soft ones, and they can still be a little bit of a pain.
A shot of wd-40 usually helps them go on.
Be glad you only have 2 and not 4 like me!

Fastkaw1 had the best solution. New boots.... fold them over on themselves and it gives you another inch of clearance. The carb rack slides right into place. Push the carbs into the engine and unfold the boots onto the carbs backs. No problem at all. Then spray the boots with silicone at least a couple times a year and the new boots will last nice and soft for years. I have had the boots on my KZ750 for about 6 years now and they are as soft as day 1.B)

Learn something new every day. I never thought of folding the ducts back to install them. Thanks. I do use a hook tool though.....chris3
