Drilling petcock hole in KZ650. was created by Cow_Man
Hi guys. I have had some petcock problems so I got an adaptor and a aftermarket petcock from Z1. My question is how much of a problem might the combustion of the tank from sparks be. I am hesitant filling the tank with water. I was thinking of blowing it out good with an airhose and letting it sit for a couple of days then using a good bit of oil as I file out the hole.

Any better suggestions???

Thanks
Bob

water wont hurt. do it all at once - fill it, drill it, check the fit, drain it and blow out with compressed air right away. not enough time to rust, and not enough water left to hurt.

set tank in hot sun for a while if you got it available. then gas and go

or put in water dryer stuff

Go to the local drug store and buy a bottle of 99% rubbing alcohol and poor it in the tank swish it around and you can put gas in it right away and burn it all. The Isopropyl Alcohol will combine with the water and than the Gas will combine with the mixture. This is how I rase my Octane on hot days, by running water in the gas.

I have done the hole enlarging thing a number of times and haven't used a drill. I have a hole reamer that I use to open up the hole and there are no sparks. A hole reamer is tapered and has a tee handle and cutting edges/blades. You stick it in the hole and twist it back and forth and it will open up the existing hole.

Hole reamer, man sometimes I feel so dumb. I have one sitting on my bench and I never even thought of it. Thanks for the wakeup call..

I'll have this thing installed in no time.

Thanks George. There's nothing like experience.

Thanks to the group for the replies.
