KZ 750 Twin making me go crazy (again)
11 Jun 2008 19:52
OK I got the bike running and performed synchronization as per the 2 bottle method
faq.ninja250.org/wiki/How_do_I_synchronize_the_carburetors%3F
carb syching.
This took the surging out but now it has became hard to start and the motor dies, blurbles and pops at above 1/4 throttle. It will ease up to 65 mph but it you are not going to make it get there in a hurry (again no more than 1/4 throttle)
I'm not that experienced in these things but my guess is it is running lean. The plugs are brand new and look that way.
I'm sorry my description is random and vague but I don't how else to describe my problems. I'll answer any and all questions and try most anything ya'll suggest at this point.
Thanks in advance.

With those symptoms, I think I would check valave clearance and cylinder compression first just to make sure they are in spec.
I'd check fuel levels next.
I'd also check the manifolds and connectors for vacuum leaks.

Another suggestion, is your diaphrams. Could have a tear or hole.

If you haven't had the carbs off since it last ran well. I doubt that the float levels are your issue.
One exception might be that your floats have become flooded but that would make for rich conditions.
I'd Look for a vacuum leak.

You need to do the clear tube check for float levels. If the fule levels are set too low, it will run lean and stumble. I would invest in a factory manual, it covers the float levels and a lot of other things.
If the carbs have not been cleaned in a while, they probably do need it. I clean mine about twice a year.

It was taking them off and doing a real good job in cleaning them that started this bucket-o-problems to begin with. Yes this is a self inflicted stupidity problem.

I would leave the carbs on the bike and remove the air filter(s). Blow compressed air into the long slot along the top and watch the diaphragm. Repeat for other carb. It does sound like a diaphragm was installed incorrectly or has a hole.

Your plugs should NOT look new. That is another sign of leanness. The plugs should be a nice warm tan. ALWAYS check and set the things that *can* be set to specs FIRST! There are very specific settings for floats (and points, and etc), and they should be set *exactly*. After that, you can move on to the subjective tings, like carb balance and pilot adjustment (though even the pilots can be set in a reasonable starting range)...
Here's everything I can offer about manuals, available from my site. Links to buy new, or download the digital (be patient, it takes a while)..

Hooray!!!!! Its fixed!!!!
When I did the big teardown (months ago)I took the boots that connect the carbs to the engine off and cleaned them. When I put them back on I just finger tightend them planning to go back later and tighten them.
Well apparently today is later enough. Its a different bike now. :silly:
