28mm carbs on a kz650...anyone? was created by galaxian
Has anyone fitted the kz1000 28mm carbs onto their 650 with success? Any improvents or insight from anyone would be cool.:) I am thinking about doing this, since i have a pipe and would run either velocity stacks or k&n pods.

I expect that 28s on a stock 650 will soften the low end and mid-range. They will give the bike some additional power at the top of the rpm range. As far as fitting, you can use 26/28 carb holders with the mount holes elongated as the spacing is a bit different. To take advantage of the larger carbs, the carb holders and intake runners on the head should be cleaned up some to match the carbs venturi but that step won't make a ton off difference unless you have additional performance mods in the engine. I personally like the performance characteristics of the 24s as airspeed through the venturi is greater due to the smaller venturi at any rpm giving better power in the lower and mid-ranges... more suitable for geezer style riding and more effective power if you are riding fast in tighter turns at lower rpms but for straightline performance, giving up some on the top.

WG interesting view point. I hadn't thought the low end would soften up.

I don't know about the 28s, but I have a set of 26s on a KZ650 with GPZ750 pisons and I'll tell you that bike runs good to put it mildly. No problem at any RPM range, that thing is fast. Probably do at least 150mph  It does run great, not kidding there.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.
