what year 900/1000s had vm26 carbs? was created by anarki650
I need to get new intake boots for my kz650 that I put vm26 carbs on. The carbs came from a Suzuki and the used boots I got for that don't have vacuum sync nipples and act like they are leaking a little bit. So, I want to order new ones but I'm not sure what years of the 900 and 1000 had 26s on them. Thanks for the help.

VM26 were used on KZ900A4/5 (1976/7) and KZ1000A1/2 (1977/8)

z1 lists the replacement boots for those years as 28 mm. Are the intake boots for the 26s the same size as the 28s?

28 and 26 mm use the same boots. I can tell you that for sure I have two bikes 79 and 80. On one it has 26s and the other has 28s and I put 29 smooth bores on both. The two things you should try are these: Put some Hi temp silicone on the backs of the boots and replace the screws with allen bolt screws as the phillips come loose and strip easy. Once you have put the silicone on the back you will have to get those carbs synced as pulling from one bike to put on another is not something that will work like that. Also if you got those carbs of a suzuki the slides may not be right.

The carbs have been rebuilt and bench synced. Bike runs great and passes the carb cleaner spray leak test when it's not warmed up, but once it gets warm it idles like a turd and when I spray the #2 and #3 boots the idle races and it smooths out. I'm 100% certain that the problem lies in leaky intake boots.
I put high temp silicone between the surfaces and am already using allen head screws instead of the phillips.
I'll pick up a new set of intake boots, just wanted to make sure I bought the right ones. Thanks for the info!!

Looks like ya got it covered and as I wrote this I assumed as much but you never know. Besides which it is better to have the nipples than not. lol Alrighty then good luck on the boots as you can be confident they are the same.

Rock on! Thanks for the confirmation. I'll be ordering the boots tomorrow and hopefully by mid week I'll be tearing it up.
