Could it be dirty carbs?

I have a 79 KZ1300 and just changed out the ignition coils. With a little starter fluid it sparked up and ran great for about an hour. I took it for a short ride (up and down the street) and let it sit for a few minutes. After that I started it back up and after a minute it started to backfire a bit and seemed to sound less powerful. I took it back out on the street and after a block or two it felt less and less powerful and then just quit. Now when I try to start it it just churns and churns but won't start. It seems it's not getting fuel. I'm thinking the carbs are filthy. Any help is much appreciated. -Michael
