Just re-installed the carbs that I got back from WG. Cleaned the fuel tank, unclogged the petcock, installed inline fuel filter. The bowls are full of fresh fuel. But no start. Am I forgetting something? All hoses are hooked up correctly as they are supposed to be. It seems as if the fuel is not making it to the cylinders, does that make any sense?

The inside of the cylinders are dry, I mean there is no fuel odor coming from there. And the inside of the carbs themselves seem dry ( Looked in there with a flashlight, didn't want to take a chance by entering a finger in there! )

She's just messing with my mind now ain't she!

Any thoughts, previous experiences with this?
Thanks!

Many people will tell you to not touch starter fluid as it is not good for the engine....

I am not one of those people!

Get some starter fluid and spray your air cleaners with it prior to starting it. The engine will run on the starter fluid for a second or two, then probably die.

Do it again... And again... Until the engine hopefully starts drawing fuel through the carb. Maybe the carbs are empty and the starter did not have the ooomph to pull enough fuel through the passages.

no starting fluid, put some gas in the spark plug holes, reinstall plugs and give it a whirl try this a couple of times don't have too do all 4 clyinders just 2 good luck or if you got pods take them off hold throttle open and take a spray bottle with gas and give them a squit then let off throttle and try to start, repeat a couple times

Not only does gorack have good taste in bike colors, he has also offered a viable alternative to starting fluid.

Albeit much more labor intensive and prone to possible plug fouling and flooding, however;

His method is much healthier for the engine in the long run. (Better in the long, worse in the short)

My method takes 2 seconds, literally...(better in the short, worse in the long)

I thought about that but didn't really had the guts to do it! I have tried putting some fuel in two of the cylinders, but only one at a time though. I'm going to try the starting fluid. Been trucking ten years so I know how to do that!

As for the spark, should I easily see it, or barely see it?

With a healthy battery and ignition system you should have a fairly bright blue spark.

Yeah. I'll put the charger on for a few hours tonight and go from there. One thing at a time!

Battery can make a difference. I used to have trouble starting my CX500. Put a new battery in and it starts like a charm.
For starting my troublesome dirt bike (kick start), I put WD40 via the plug hole and it then starts easily. WD40 is not as explosive as ether.

SHE LIVES!!!

Turns out she was getting too much fuel! The idle screw wasn't touching the butterfly thingy there, so the throttle was always open. Modified the piece, and she started right up, 8 years later!:woohoo:

Now I just have to have the DOT inspect it, and we be riding!

Thanks a lot for the input guys, I'll post a picture soon!
