i have new carb boots, electronic ignition, new pods, no leaks.. My bike runs great, but even in warm weather i can't start the bike without starting fluid. the choke works but i still need starter fluid. If something was in the pilot circuit what would happen. Wouldn't the bike run crappy? Runs great just can't start it.:( oh, the plugs look good. except for #1, i am burning a small amount of earl in that piston..

If your carbs are like mine, when you apply the choke you are really opening an additional start circuit. It makes the mixture richer. Sounds as if one or more of your carbs has its start circuit plugged or at least partially blocked. :(

Clean them out with air and or cleaner.

Best of success. :)

Just a reminder that the throttle should be left alone and allowed to remain completely closed when using the choke to first crank up a cold engine.

Also be sure to allow a moment or so for fuel to fill the float bowls after turning on the petcock (if vacuum petcock, use the PRI prime position).

If unsuccessful with above techniques, perhaps the choke (enrichener) circuit is to blame (as already suggested), or possibly float levels are too low.

Hoping for a simple fix. Good Luck! :)

thanks... i might send them out to WG. i too believe there is something obstructing the pilot passage, but was not sure. i forgot to mention that the #1 air mixture screw has no effect on the motor at all. i can take it all the way out or screw it all the way in with absolutely nothing.

Wow! Sounds like #1 pilot circuit is really pluged up. Are you in a position to give it a blast of air or a bit of a clean out to confirm?

Best of success. :)

man, i know.. I think the other cylinders are clogged as well, but maybe not as much. i can get air in there, though i'm hoping it's not residue from a carb soak.. Sounds like it might be unfortunately. I'll try the air, but i might have to send them out. I just went for a ride and used starting fluid. The bike runs well even at idle. Can the pilot still be clogged and have no impact on idle? Only starting? It might be time to have these rebuilt.

seafoam is not going to fix that problem, it may work on some light varnish, but if you can take a screw all the way out and not change anything, then there are some issues at hand and only a good cleaning and rebuild are going to fix it

Probably not on the really clogged circuit but can't hurt and might help clean any partially blocked area's
