Looking for Carb mount help was created by rdgrnr
Anyone know the trick for putting the carbs back on to the stock airbox?
Spent 1/2 hour earlier trying, but can't get them to sqeeze in past the top of the rubbers on the engine side (PITA) :S
The airbox boots are new.

A few small(er) flat screwdrivers...some WD40...and a heatgun to soften the rubber.(don't ignite the WD40,or melt the rubber boots though, lol).
A couple of very small pry-bars,or something with a soft, gentle hook will help also.Don't use anything sharp.

Honestly though...it's been a lot of years since I had to deal with an airbox, but I DO remember those items making it easier.

Having another set of hands will for sure make it easier too.One person on each side of the bike.B)

Start with mounting them to the engine first.(almost forgot)

The rubber is thinner on the airbox, and easier to manipulate.

I mount the carbs to the carb holders first, clamp in place. Then I feed each boot from inside the airbox (mine are new so I can fold them easily) onto each carb. I also do this out in the driveway in the warm sun which makes things easier too. Even with new warm boots it's still a PITA!

Sandy, I tried your suggestion one more time and gave up.
I wanted to throw the carbs down the freakin' driveway:laugh:
So, this morning after setting up a halogen worklight next to the bike for warmth (was still 39 degrees F) and tried Bluemeanie's idea and it worked perfectly. Was still a PITA, but much less cussing:laugh:
The boots are brand new, which I'm sure made it much easier.

Thanks guys
I have a thread on my progress in projects.

After you've done them a few times it gets much easier (because you remember to have a good belt of Scotch before you start). Ed

I prefer using a hair dryer to heat up rubber to make it more malleable. If have found that a heat gun it too hot and can easily burn rubber if left in one spot too long. Additionally, the blower moves the hot air all around instead of focussing the heat in one area.

Just my 2 cents worth discovered through trial and error:)
