i thought the 79 1000e (shaft) had accelerator pumps on all the carbs. i had never payed attention to mine as they have always run OK. this is how mine are setup. should i change anything if it seems to run well?

As you can see in the above diagram, the pump is on the #2 carb and services all four carbs.

there is a tube running straight from #1 to #4, bypassing 2 & 3.. am i missing out on any performance? or was it an emissions benefit?

I'm not 100% sure on this(because I don't know for sure what carbs you have on there),but...those carbs(1 and 4) should NOT be bridged like that. Those carbs need to be vented,so you should have one line coming from each vent tube on carbs 1 and 4.

I made that mistake a couple years back, with my 29's.:silly:

How IS the bike running, having the carbs set up like that, btw?

I'd be willing to bet that your pumper doesn't work. There is a nipple on each end of the pumpers output for #1 and #3 & 4. Unless the nipple to #1 is capped it would squirt gas out each time you blipped the throttle.

The pumper just helps the lean transition out of the stock pilots pretty much. It only squirts once each blip.

it is running great. the bowls of #2 (pumper) & 3 don't even have the ports like 1 & 4 so obviously someone has monkeyed with them over the years. it looks like 1 & 4 might be the original type bowls since they have the outlets.
