Ok I have tried and tried to get replacement airbox hoses. the last time I tried and gave up and bought some K&N Pods. I like the pods however I have a couple of issues . . .

It seems like I am getting too much suck :P

The oil on the pod is getting sucked out to the point that I feel like I have to oil them up every few days to keep them oiled???

I am moving back to Salt Lake City, Utah from Las Vegas, Nevada and I thought it would be a good idea to switch back to the stock airbox as I will have the weather elements to deal with that I don't have to deal with down here.

But it seems I cannot get any new airbox hoses since Kawasaki has discontinued them for my bike.

I have tried to usual routes . . .Z1enterprises . . .but they recommended some that they said some others have purchased and made work.

I ordered the some but they are to small for the airbox and will not work.

So I need some advise . . . could the carbs be sucking in to much air or is this just what happens with the pods?

If they are how can I fix the problem?

Is there another airbox and hoses I can get that will work with my bike?

Thanks guys :)

Sounds like your over oiling the pods. I've been using K&N's on my bike and cage for years with no problems. After cleaning (completly dry too) apply a quick swipe down each pleat, it may appear to be not enough oil but it will soak down into filter. When properly oiled they should appear as a dark pink color.

Jeffo you sent me into a panic when I read your post since I need to buy 3 or 4 new sets of these for various bikes I have. I checked the Z-1 site and I now see that they list a different set of hoses for the CSR than what is listed for the 650B/C/D . I'm thinking that possibly you bought the hoses for the earlier models? If so I would have thought these would work with your bike, if in fact they won't because the holes in the H-1 box are slightly larger you might try to find an airbox off an earlier 650B/C/D just a thought.

Airbox from an earlier model will fit too. My 81 CSR had pods on it when I bought it and wanted to go with the stock airbox (although I've cursed that a few times working on getting it back on the road I'm happy now that she's done). The only area I came across a problem fitting an older airbox is in the crankcase breather hose, the fittings don't line up quite right between the two, but it's workable.

Well I don't think I am over oiling the Pods . . it almost starts to turn white when I re-oil them which is about every three days or so of riding.

I think I will just have to find another air box that will work my bike, the only question is what year should I be looking for that I will not have any fitting issues? Can I expand my search to different models like a 750 or 900?

The air box hoses I got from Z1 are OEM: 11015-057 (2) 11015-063 (2) . . I have not taken a Pod off to see if it will fit the carb but it definitively does not fit the box.

Another thing to consider I have a K&N filter for the stock air box I would also like to re-use on the new one so I guess I will just have to check out Kawasaki's web site to make sure it uses the same filter.

Thanks again for your help guys!

Man, it sounds like you're working too hard on this problem (oiling pods every 3 days, ouch). I would just put the stock airbox and filter back in buy new air filter ducts. According to Kawasaki.com (please check me on this as I could be wrong) the 1981 KZ650H1 CSR uses 2 14073-1052 ducts for the 2 left carbs and 2 14073-1053 ducts for the 2 right carbs. They should be easy to find on the internet, here's one place that has them (just plug in the part numbers). Good luck. Ed

Well those are the right part #'s and that site lets me order them so I ordered them and we will just have to wait and see if they really have them.

I have decided that if I cannot get the air box hoses I will have a body shop fill in the air box holes and I will get some hoses that will work and I will cut new holes that way I can still use the K&N filter I have and I would not have to do any other modification.

Ok so I ordered the hoses and I got 3 out of 4?? They shipped me two right and one left air box hose and said the will refund me for one of the left because they do not have any more . . . .it would have been nice if they called and asked me first.

So now I am just missing one hose part number 14073-1052

Any recommendations on another site I may be able to get one from? I am guessing its just luck but before that site I had not found any and now that I have 3 out of 4 so I am hopeful in finding the last one.

Ok so I tried out the right hose on the left side upside down and it looks like it will work fine.

I ordered another right side one.

Thanks guys!
