Leaky tee
09 Mar 2008 18:41
I have a 1978 KZ650 SR. I rebuilt the carbs, installed them and the new petcock (a story for another time), installed the gas tank and put a little gas in the tank to make sure I didn't have any leaks. One made its presence known immediately and it's the tee that connects 1 and 2 carbs to 3 and 4. When I have a part like this that's obviously failed I prefer to get a new one HOWEVER ... neither Z1 nor cheapcycleparts.com nor bikebandit have one. I'm going to have to repair the one I have.
I searched posts here and saw one mentioning JB weld but it wasn't clear where the JB weld was actually applied. I also saw posts mentioning Teflon tape. That method appeals to me more but I'm wondering about Teflon and fuel. Has anyone tried other methods to work around this type of leak?
Thanks!

Teflon tape,all the way!
I used it on my old 26's,before I got the 29's and it worked GREAT!
And it stayed dry until I swapped carbs, and that was about 3 seasons.
I thought the same thing too, about teflon and gas,but it does work.
Go for it.

I used one from these guys.
www.motorcyclecarbs.com/Fuel_Tees_C661.cfm
Pretty pricey but it works well and there's no messing around trying to rig it to work.
