will not idle
01 Mar 2008 20:21
i recently rebuilt my accel pump. replaced intake boots. replaced needle and seat in all 4 carbs. now bike will not idle. runs great under acceleration. will die if choke is applied. didnt do this before, but didnt run as well before. only thing i can think of is one of the springs in the kit was heavier than the oe spring. i used the heavy one. think this is my problem.

either air leak causing mix to be to lean, idle adjustment not done or dirty air or fuel filter or running rich and getting that air on acceleration. Try the spring thing, put the other one back in and see what happens, but I doubt thats the prob, but it will cause uneven mixtures in the cylinders, I am guessing. Check your cable adjustments and the idle adjustment and check back.

wg? Dunno what you did. It wasn't the accelerator pump kit for sure. Won't idle means that the idle circuit is messed up. Since I have no idea what type carbs these are, I can only suggest adjusting either the pilot fuel mixture screws or air screws to 1 1/2 turns out from lightly seated. You should also check the float levels and last, thoroughly clean the pilot system. Are the vents clear?
The pilot system isn't getting the proper air/fuel mix so it won't idle. You did enough things while in there that most anything I mentioned might have mucked up something.

mikuni carbs round slide no diaphrams. vents are clear. float levels... wait a minute. think thats where i might have done something. i adjusted them... a little. if im my fuel level is not high enough it will not hit the pilot jets. this explains it... right...
