I called my mechanic today & he informed me I need 4 carb rebuild kits & not jet kits. He said the floats & needles may be badly worn & gas may be leaking. In any case, that makes more sense. So where is the cheapest I can get a set of four for my bike?

The carb kits are only for models up to 1978. I have 1979. Anywhere else?

What kind of mechanic is that. Cut the fool off. Any mechanic that just realized you dont need a jet kit is not a mechanic, turning your bike into a ticking time bomb. I want to use some words to describe him but I might get kicked off of this great forum. Get your bike out of that guys hands. He is using up all your money on foolishness, his foolishness. Lemme talk a'LIL caribbean to ya rite! Ya eva hear of a bush mechanic? Thas one rite dere man. Lef him alone. You coulda get more help here on dis forum dan dat man for free even, except electricity and internet bills. Thats all I got to say boss. Stop draggin ya feet an step on him!

I have had the bike for a couple of weeks now. It IS in my hands. He told me I needed the carb rebuild kits originally but I misunderstood it as jet kit.

Sounds like 24ss Mikuni's. If you get tired of messing around with them, send the carbs to Wiredgeorge, he's the man. You should be getting in the upper 30's for mileage. I think my best ever highway was 44, but I usually get 38mpg.
