Number 42 or 43 is stripped... And I'm having a hell of a time just trying to get it out. I want to buy the new one and replace it. First problem is I can't get the damn thing out. Second is there are two number 42s? Which should I order...
Thanks,
Ed

The first #42 says:
42: SCREW,PILOT ADJUSTING
4

That means there a 4 screws needed for the assembly.

the second #42 says:

42: SCREW,AIR ADJUSTING
,CN

I am ssuming the CN means Candian, as I look at other parts they are labeld US.

Could try fast-dry epoxy or JB Weld or super-glue to affix screwdriver tip to slot in air screw.

First do a perfect cleaning job on the air screw slot and screwdriver tip. Restrict glue application to a tiny amount within the slot holding onto the screwdriver tip and without any glue touching the carb body. Be patient and allow the glue to get really dry and hard. If necessary, fashion some manner of holding things in place until the glue dries.

The idea is to "weld" the screwdriver tip to the screw slot. Then, slowly turn counterclockwise while gently pulling outward in hopes the screw will back out. Good luck! :)

CptEDIV, If the screw goes into the bottom of the carb it's a "pilot" screw, going into the side of the carb at an angle it's an "air" screw. Pilot screws regulate gas and air screws regulate air. ;)

In the diagram it looks like number 42, which goes diagonally into the carb, but it calls it a pilot screw? But it seems like an air screw the way Blue Meanie describes it. When it says 4, does that mean one for each carb, or four for just that carb? The latter wouldn't make much sense because one screw, and one spring come out of each carb. I'm confused :P. How do you know if its a canadian screw, 'Eh?

Well...... if she yells "oh God, 'Ey!" she's Canadian!!:woohoo: Sorry, you left yourself open for that one. Anyway, if the screws come out the side they are "air" screws. One per carb, they should be acelerator pump carbs right? Air screw is circled in red, that what you got?

Thats the one, yes it has the accelerator pump. Haha... I gotta laugh at that though :P. So which do you think I should order..? I got JB weld today, I'll try taking it out as soon as I order the correct one and put it in.
Thanks,
Ed

The diagram is kind of jacked up. Both #42 in the diagram are air screws, the only difference is the second one is exclusively used on Canada motorcycles. The first airscrew is the one used on countless air screw type carburetors, 78-up KZ650, 1979-80 KZ1000 ect. #30 in the diagram is the pilot screw that goes on the bottom of the carbs, not used on your bike. There's a 99.99% probability you do not have Canada carbs so I'd order the first #42 part number, but my guess is there is very small difference in them. If you have the fresh air emissions reed valves on top of the engine, the motorcycle is a USA model.
321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Awesome, thanks. They don't sell these on Z1? I have a hard time finding parts like jets and such on Z1.. Bike Bandits pretty clear, but I prefer Z1 for customer service and the prices.
