WOW What a difference! (Jetting)
16 Feb 2008 14:25
I just installed the #70 primary main jets to go along with the #140 Secondary mains i put in a couple weeks ago.
While the bike ran well with the stock primary jets (#62) it still took forever to warm up and idle on its own.
Today i installed the 70's and reassembled the bike, I let the fuel get primed into the carbs for a minut then started it.
I immediately noticed that shortly after starting it I now need to plunk the Choke handle to the almost off position or it will choke out.
I am very happy with the new jets and took a video of it going through the RPM ranges. I am satisfied at how it does so with ZERO flat spots!
Thank You WiredGeorge for the insight on Jet sizes and carb adjustments and Thank You Z1 Enterprises for having a great Business and Services.
Video shortly.

Here you guy's go.
Its clear that the bike runs so much better, i let it cool awhile with a fan blowing on it, i noticed that the idle is really low at 1K until a couple minutes after i start it, isnt it supposed to be at 2.5K?
I just turn it up a bit until its a t operating temp and then manually turn it back to 1.5K and its all good.

the initial test ride up the hill went very nice and smooth.
Only went to 40 (posted limit) and cant believe what a difference a couple holes can make.
First time i have ridden the bike with it running smooth, cant wait to hit the freeway onramp and see whats "Really Goin on!" lol!
I wish i lived in an area that has 75Mph interstates like back east to down south and southwest on my drive from Chicago to Arizona.
I would like to see how it runs at speeds now lol!

Havent heard anything of running it at 1K as a standard really.
EDIT: I just checked my Manual and it calls for 10 degrees top dead center at idle of 1050rpm. so its set proper.

if i run it at that then the starter clutch makes too much noise for me, with it at 1.5 i cant really hear anything and it seems to me to be running better than it ever has.Warm idle speed on all 4's are generaly around 1K. + or - 100 RPM.

Hey ran, your idle is set at 1.5 but manual says 1050? That's a 450rpm difference, how is it set proper? As danny says most standards idle at about 1000rpm +/- If it makes noise at 1000 +/- you might be hearing your timing chain because of looseness, carbs not synced, etc. Glad you finally got it running smooth. Run it out to a back road and let her rip!!

its at 1.5, right in the middle of 1K and 2K that was a typo.
see video and you will see where it runs. if it goes any lower the bike wont run correct no matter what i do to it.
If i have it running at 1050 RPM's & 10-deg b4 TDC it wont run quiet due to the stupid worn starter clutch noise.
Maybe i should roll it off a hill and buy a brand new bike instead.
I will if i cant get the motor running where its supposed to.

Hey, that’s great to here, I will have to reorder some jets similar to the setup you have. It just kills me that I is too cold to work on or ride my bike, I am so jealous that you can.
