Replacement carbs. What fits? was created by Kraygh
I need some experts to bottom-line this for me.
I have a 1980 KZ750 LTD4
I would like to replace the stock carbs (keihin) with something that has parts that are more readily available.

What is a direct fit for this bike?

I heard people say it depends on the application... so I'll try to be more informative:
I do little highway traveling. Just short tours around town.
I'd prefer something that doesn't need constant tweaking to get to perform at it's peak. (i.e. reliable.)
And good parts availability, just is case.

Thanks in advance for any info that helps!

The only direct fit is a CV34 because the carb holders are unique to that application. If you change the carb holders and throttle cable, you can use BS34 or BS32 Mikuni assemblies. If you change the carb holders, throttle cable and either adapt the airbox to carburetor rubber connectors (or use pods), you can use Mikuni VM24, VM26, VM28, VM29 or vm33 carburetors.

Thanks for the quick response.
I have no problem with changing boots or cable and air intake isn't that big of a deal to play with.

But with all these choices, which is best and why?

You have unique priorities that will make one man's best bet your worst nightmare and vise versa. Do some searching through the archives in this forum area... I am sure this will lead you to being able to match your priorities and pocketbook with specific types of carburetors.
