Worst Carb Award?
21 Jan 2006 07:13
I hope this photo posts OK. These are the carbs from a ' 78 750 that apparently got parked under a tree for 20 years or so. A few of the brass floats were almost completely gone, and the bowl had what looked like sand in it. I got the rolling chassis for $5, and many parts still work, so not a bad deal.

I knew you would figure out the picture posting thing, now where's the pic of the bike.
You are right about the carbs, those are the worst 750 twin carbs I have ever seen!

No, I don't plan on fixing these carbs; they are from a '78 junker. I took them apart for fun and to gain a bit of know-how before I attempt to rebuild my good ones. Kinda like students in med school learn on dead guys before touching live people.

Last year I resurrected a 1982 Magna 750 that had been sitting in the rain for two years with no top half of the airbox. The rain just ran around the tank, into the second half of the airbox and filled the engine and carbs with water.
All four carbs were like that, three slides were siezed. Luckily I had a set of carbs off an 83 Sabre and used the best of both sets.
