81 csr carb help. no needle slots???? was created by krcrawford29
I put on pod filters and went for a ride. The out come: 2/3 to full throttle has no power, rideable at low rpms, plugs are white. I figured I would start by raising the needle, but it DOESN'T HAVE SLOTS!!!!!!
Only one setting!! WTF????
Keep in mind I bought this for 400 bucks and this was my first ride after 300 dollars of preparation.
Did someone else put these in? Or do I just need to go streight to the main jet and go a size or two bigger?

There was no need, after all Ma Kaw knew what would work for stock and that's all they design for. Lots of stock needles have single slots.

Wow... fella told you to put in some larger main jets and you call the jet needles "crappy". Why? You ain't running on the jet needle if you are running out of gas obviously. Go to larger mains as has already been noted. Try some #110 mains.

George, sorry if I am missing something, but on the 81 CSR, aren't the stock carbs BS34s? Aren't 110 mains too small for this application? I think the stock jetting for this model is 122.5 mains. Am I off base on this one?

Edited to add: Oops-my bad. I was thinking KZ1000-CSR, not 650. Sorry.

You know, now that you bring it up, he said 82 in his signature and if so, they might be BS32s (not 34s) but still CV style carbs. I hope he clarifies. Most all the BS series carbs had non-adjust jet needles as did the later pumper 24s 79-81 on the 650s.

AHH, YES! i did put 82 in my signature, sorry I will change it to 81, and thank you for the attention to detail. I tend to be on here late at night. Anyway, now that I have clarrified, could someone tell me the jet size to shoot for on my 1981csr which is running lean and I can assume stock jetting in there because this only happened after I put on the pod filters.
And thank you all, I am beginnig to LOVE this site.

If you have an 81, then #110 for the VM24 w/pump should be #110 mains.

It had 92.5 in. Put in 110s and it runs great. Plugs are still a little light in color, thinking of going up a size. After I put on a 4-1 exhaust, does anyone know what settings work best? Or do these bikes differ a bit from one to the other?

Your carbs have three circuits that contribute to the color of your plugs. Your main jets are plenty big enough as they are not what are causing the lean burn on the plugs. That would be your pilot jets... go up to #17.5 pilots using VM22/210 type. There have been MANY posts on rejetting 24s with pumps... do some reading to see what other folks have done.
