Carb/rubber holder issues 81 KZ250C Single was created by uniquezfreak
This is the first site I've found with some decent discussion on the 250, so fingers crossed as I'm running out of options, here goes:

I've purchased a 81 Single Cylinder KZ250 (C model I believe - The seat is mainly the same height unlike the two step ones I've seen). It's got the wrong carb on it and runs very very badly due to this. - Currently, it has a round slide carb. I'm told it should have a CV32 Kiehn. - So I purchased one off ebay that was sold as a KZ250 carb (but I have my I'm not 100%)

The main problem is, it doesn't fit the existing carb rubber holder properly on the cylinder head. (which could be the wrong one, due to the wrong carb being on the bike).

I can't order the right carb rubber from the parts fish item 16065-1028, as it's discontinued with out a cross-compatible replacement or so the dealer tells me. I've been unable to find an aftermarket rubber holder that would do the job.

I basically need a way to fit a decent CV32 carb to my bike, after confirming that my current CV32 is the right one.

My current rubber carb holder, is 67mm ish between mounting holes and 33mm ish internal diameter (where the rubber fits over the carb inlet).

The CV carb I have, is 32mm internal diameter, but about 37mm external diameter!. I have managed to wedge it in the current rubber holder using some force, (but that will probably split after any degree of use).

The CV32 needs a big overhaul, so I'm loathed to spend on it until I know I can fit it properly. - or change the carb for one that will fit more easily.

I'm happy to buy both items from anyone, or take any advice on whether my current CV carb is the correct one based on the inlet measurements i/d and o/d or where I could get the correct mounting rubber?

The carb looks exactly like the one on the parts fish, but the fish doesn't give inlet o/d and i/d measurements to help me confirm.

Hello uniquezfreak...if you have a 1981 KZ250, then you have a D2 model. Assuming that the part number is correct at 16065-1028 (and it is)...then the dealer should have suggested alternatives in the used part search. Most of us avoid going to dealers as they either don't have as much info as we do, or they are lazy, or they deliberately steer you wrong because they don't want to mess with an older bike...the part is cross-listed with three other models of KZ250's and four (this is the good news) of KZ750 (1980-83 KZ750H1-H4)...while the part might not be available, but to be safe you may want to check with Jeff at www.Z1Enterprises.com I would bet you could pick up a nice set of used carb holders on eBay if you search using the 750 criteria (the 250's are fairly rare):)

I went to the Kawasaki web site and pulled up your machine on the parts diagrams area. Check it out here tinyurl.com/y26bhb

It appears your 250 shares the same carb holder as the 750 H models.

Model (7):
KZ250-D1 (KZ250) (1980)
KZ250-D2 (CSR) (1981)
KZ250-L1 (CSR Belt) (1982)
KZ750-H1 (LTD) (1980)
KZ750-H2 (LTD) (1981)
KZ750-H3 (LTD) (1982)
KZ750-H4 (LTD) (1983)

Check Z1Enterprises.com and see if they have a carb holder for the 750, I bet they do. If Jeff doesn't have it, then start looking on ebay.

I happen to have a 750 Shaft, 1983. When I check the carb holder for my bike it happens to list the 750's in the above list...but it doesn't list the 250 at all...I guess the cross-reference feature is a help, but not extremely accurate. If I were you I would look for a carb holder off a 750, any model. It probably fits.

Edit: Darn that Mcdroid! Don't you have something else to do?

wow, cheers guys - your not wrong about the dealers! - I've just e-mailed Jeff and I'll get a shortlist off ebay etc in case he's not got the part. :)
