K&L petcock kit was created by Bluemeanie
After the accident my petcock diaphram started leaking. Nothing touched valve, impact just tore 27 year old diaphram. Ordered up a K&L kit. Installed kit and selecter valve was so tight it could NOT be turned! Selector valve gasket and o ring were larger than factory (had no problems there before). Installed old ones and now turns fine. Also found next day that carbs were full and leaking. Removed and found that diaphram was too short (metal part) and did not reach in far enough for o ring to seal. Contacted K&L and they sent me another diaphram with same results. Set in place old diaphram and blew into fuel outlet and could not blow through, it sealed. Other two leaked bad. Using a micrometer I found that factory length was .746, replacement was .733 (.013 less!) and 2nd one was at .700! (.046 less!) The diaphram should contact sealing base even without spring. .013 and .046 is a huge gap. I don't want to replace with Z1 part and have to mickey mouse things. My factory valve is in perfect condition. I see that the same diaphram was used up until I believe 2001 on the 1000P. Is K&L having major quality control problems or what? Would dealer use OEM part or outsourcing with aftermarket stuff?

I had the same probs with the K&L rebuild kits, which is the primary reason I plopped down the $85 + tax and just bought a NOS OEM petcock.
Haven't had a lick of probs with it since then - 3+ years and still no leaks.

I don't know the K&L stuff, but the factory diaphram is only about $11.
