79' carbs on 78' Bike
24 Nov 2007 16:32
Hey guys,
I have a 1978 KZ650. The only set of carbs I have are from a 79' KZ650 with the accelerator pump. Are there any problems I should worry about when running the bike with these carbs? I am running pods and have the carbs rejetted. I don't see why there would be any problems, but thought I would check.
Thanks

AFAIK the only diffs between the carbs is the accelerator pump, and possibly main & pilot jet sizes.
As long as you've re-jetted the carbs to compensate for the increased airflow by running pods, you should be OK.

Just be ready to hold on when the boost of the accelrator pump kicks in.
Really though, what purpose/advantage did the accelerator pump provide?

i think when they leaned them out real bad for emmissions the tip-in stumble got real bad and the pump covered it up some. with proper tuning i think they can be eliminated. or at least have in the past, but that was on hondas

Everything should work just fine. Other than the pump they are the same carbs as other years.
