Carb Cleaner Container was created by fishybass
Hi all,

What container is best to do the soaking in. I understand the chemicals are pretty caustic. My original thought was to use a long clean plastic planter box. But, I don't trust the whole thing wouldn't melt. My next thought is to line the planter box with several layers of aluminum foil. But this seems flimsy and like I'm asking for trouble.
Any other thoughts?

Also, rumor has it that if you soak the carbs long enough, no wires are necessary to clean the small passageways. Is this true? I'll let them soak for a month if that means I remove the possibility of screwing up the carbs by scratching them.

Any HDPE or PP container is fine. I realy like those large square buckets that cat litter coms in, they are HDPE. You can even use LDPE containers such as the ones which are sold for storrage at K-Mart Wal Mart and Target stores. They are thick enough not to absorb the solvents. By the way, my favorite Carburator cleaner is Zeps Orange Clean which i buy at Home depot in one galon containers and is water based. I wash all of my engine parts in it. Do not hoever use the Zep Purple Heavy duty Degreaser. It will corode and desolve any aluminum parts. The Orange clean is extremely safe I have left parts sitting in it for a week and had no problem. That is how I can get My Combustion chambers so clean on my heads.

Here is abetter picture of a close up. Cleaned with Zep Orange clean. To make it a little stronger you can add a little Amonia to it. This head was simply soaked and than wrinced off with a garden hose.

While we're on the subject, has anyone ever tried natural orange oil for cleaning parts and/or carbs? I'm sure the Zep you're talking about has some in it. What I'm referring to is orange oil and plant surfactants. It will disolve certain plastics.

Yes we are speaking of the same thing. The problem is cost, it is quite expensive in any large quantities.
