carb help? was created by violentvintagecycles
Hello all. Going to clean these carbs, bench sync, make sure the air screws right, got a couple questions. 82 KZ550a3, tk carbs. Im running NO airbox or pods, bike doesnt roll, just want to hear it run and see what else it needs. I will eventually do pods and rejet but not now.
Where are the air screws and what should they be set at? And if i just want the bike to idle and run on choke, should i adjust it, and to what?
The emissions hoses, should they be blocked off? Still have everything hooked up at the valve covers, but going to get rid of it. The big hose that goes to the airbox should be breathed, i know that.
Annnnd, the bench sync, can anyone explain how to do that your talkin to a 5 yr old? lol.

Been 20 yrs since ive been in a carb, little nervous.

Thanks for any help, much appreciated!

OKC_Kent said in an earlier post about bench syncing......
"Remove the carbs as you may want to bench sync them. You remove the top covers off the carbs and loosen the locknut.Turn the adjusting screw to allow for a slight clearance between the carb body and the slide. A quick and accurate way is to get a thin wire about 1mm thick, or the red tube from a spray can. Insert it between the slide and body and adjust all four so the tube can be removed in and out without noticeable friction"

Excellant reply, another good hint from the Kawasaki factory manual (they say very accurate) is when spacer is in carbs to turn over so it is pointing down. SLOWLY turn screw until spacer just falls out. Do it twice to get it right. Worked for me, I like the idea!
