Have u tried 34mm CV carbs? was created by Nelson
I'm thinking a set of 34mm CV carbs from a police bike or 80s KZ might give me more flow while still being civilized for lower rpm street use. They're also not too pricey on ebay...

Anybody tried this?

Should work perfectly. this is the same carb used on the first j motors and the MK-II motors which are no diferrent from the 77-78 motors. You should get better fuel economy during normal riding but "may" loose a little "snap" in the throtle response. I believe you did nothing wrong. I would recomend matching the intake port casting to match the new boot you require for the CV carbs.

Here is a picture of my newest project which is almost finished. It is a GPZ made out of a CSR Cruiser. The CSR has the same carbs you are useing.

otakar is right on.imo there is no point spending $500 on vm29mm smoothies these days. there are now way more options, and price plays a majore roll. aparently there is very little performance dif between the 2.but if u are searching ebay keep an eye out for some 31mm Kehins, or rs34mm mikuni's($300 to 400). both would be a step up from the cv's for the reason otakar mentioned, responce. u can use j model boots for all.hope this helps .good hunting.B)

The MK II engine did NOT use BS34 constant velocity carburetors... that bike model used VM28 w/accelerator pump. First BS34 was used in 81 on the J motor which is NOT the same as the MK II engine... lots of family similarities but a totally different engine.

The RS family of carburetors is a racing application and not necessarily better than a constant velocity carburetor on a street bike. The BS series carburetors are smooth and offer good performance with economy. To make the switch, you will need to use different carb holders, a different throttle cable and different air filter set up... See our website which has comprehensive install how-to written up on switching from VM to BS series carbs. Under "wg's Tech Stuff Index".
