Choke/carb issues
13 Oct 2007 12:19
I am having some recent issues I can't figure out.
My bike will start right up and idle great, but lately when I try to get going the bike bogs down and dies unless I pull the choke lever all the way up, in which case it runs like a champ, so I know I have some carb issues but I don't know exactly what I need to be doing to remedy the situation.
Here's the bike - 78 kz650B, mikuni vm24's, have the pilot screw on teh bottom of the carbs turned about 2.5 turns out, 17.5 pilots and 102.5 mains. I took the A50 pilot jets out and just left them out as I was reading somewhere else in the forums to do that with these carbs.
Pods, 4-1 exhaust, completely rewired bike so all of the electronics should be good.
Any suggestions on where to start adjusting?

My 650 does the same thing... I had a vacuum leak so I fixed that now I am just waiting to get my new jets(should be here monday) before I try to fire her up and see if it is still "bogging" down on acceleration

Sounds lean. And you should clean those carbs while you have 'em apart.
Try:
#110 mains
screw: 1-1.5 turns out
See wiredgeorge's site too!

Damn.... new jets in what a difference!! if your using pods I would try 110 mains... it should make all the difference in the world... now my bike wants to lift the front wheel off the ground instead of die...

Have you tried running it with the petcock on prime? Also, is there any other obstruction to fuel flow?
I'd have a long hard look here first before opening up your carburetor.
A lesson on carburetor's as delivered by my mentor.
Carburetor; french word, meaning 'some one else fixes this' or can be loosely translated to 'leave it alone, bonehead'.
