K&N v UNI ?
30 Sep 2007 08:42
Hey all,
I currently have the green Uni's on my 650, and to be honest, they look like crap next to the metal flake blue. The bike runs great with them,(I believe all jets are stock)but I have been thinking about converting to the K&N's. I have 2 questions regarding this. One, do I have to rejet, and two, does anyone know of a reasonable source for them?
I guess I would also consider a new set of Uni's in a different color.
Thanks

I'm a K&N fan thru and thru! You'll pay more up front but it's the LAST set of pods you'll buy! They'll still be filtering air long after your lungs stop breathing it!! They flow more air than Uni's do so a jet change may be in order, which means they will produce MORE power! My 2 cents worth...

Bluemeanie,
Do you know of a reasonable supplier for those?

Not off the top of my head but filters show up all the time on ebay, they look exactly like K&N's but you would have to ask. Like these might work...
tinyurl.com/3396by
I went to the K&N web site and they ask for your zip code and will show ALL dealers that sell the K&N part #'s for your bike, includes phone #'s too!

K&N for me as well. What kills them is over cleaning, and blowing dry with compressed air. Use K&N's Service Kit only for these filters. No reason they can't be cleaned once a year, or go longer, unless you ride on dirty/dusty roads.
No UNI or EMGO filters for me.
Here's the ones I'm using, RU1824's and they fit a 2" carb opening nice, on my TK27's.

I am with Bluemeanie on this one, have been using them on Z900's and Z1000's since I can remember (am losing it with age)cost more, but are more of an investment than just a clamp on pod or filter arrangement.

Thanks for the info on this one.
If I go with the K&N's, do I have to re-jet, or at least adjust the needle clip?
