differant carbs was created by 1cheapride
I bought a set of carbs off ebay for my 1980 KZ650E that were slightly differant from my originals. the one I bought looks the same as mine except there are no air screw adjustments. I took them apart and cleaned them put new diaphrames in and they run fine on my bike. I guess my question is why no air screws?

Yea thats kind'a what it looks like. Like they filled the holes full of JB weld or something. Whatever it is its hard stuff I tried digging at it with my knife.
Thanks

Carefully and slowly drill out the plug. Don't drill in too far, as the straight-slot for the adjusting screw is just below that. Drill enough to pop those caps off, and you'l be OK.

Sounds like you got a set of California carbs, they plug the screw holes so you won't mess with them and increase the smog output.

Since the 1980 KZ650 carbs were all mechanical slide and this fella put "new diaphragms" in, I suspect that no one has a clue as to what type carburetors he installed. There are no diaphragms in a 1980 KZ650 except for the accelerator pump and air cut of valve assemblies.

Wiredgeorge the accelerator pump and air cut is the diaphragms I was refering to. My bike was built 11/79 someone told me they changed carburetors sometime in early 1980 like febuary. Anyway the ones I bought have the air screws pluged can they be drilled out?

Enlighten him? How so? He has accelerator pump VM24s which will fit on his bike just fine. All 24s have either air screws or pilot mixture screws or both. the pilot mixture screws are located on the engine side underneath in front of the float bowls. If they are not there, then the carbs most likely have air screws capped by aluminum plugs. There are about 20 versions of the VM24 carb assembly used on various KZ650 models.
