Burning rich? What makes you think the carburetors are responsible? Have you adjusted the valve clearances on this bike? Checked the spark? Checked power to the coils? See our articles on the these issues on our website under "wg's Tech Stuff Index". The only adjustment for air/fuel mixture on your carbs are the airscrews on the sides of the carbs. These screws are not particularly sensitive and should be set at 1 3/8 turns out from lightly seated with stock jetting and stock airbox/pipes. If you have modified either pipes or airbox, you need to consider rejetting. I doubt your problem is carburetor related and is more likely one of the former issues I noted but if it is carburetor related, it could be that a previous owner rejetted the carburetors inapporopriately... what jetting do you have??? What airbox/pipe combo??? Last, you will get sooty plugs and black smoke if you have an airfilter(s) that are extremely dirty.
