About my Emgo pods
19 Sep 2007 05:06
Do they need to be oiled like my K@N filter I have in my truck?
Also, the throttle isn't quite as "snappy" as it was with the stock air box. Has just a slight lag. But while I had the carbs off I did check the pump squirters and they all squirted nicely, so I don't think thats the problem. I haven't looked at the plugs yet to see whether she's running lean or not, and I haven't done any full throttle runs with yet to see what happens. Think maybe I need to go up a size in my jets?

Emgo Filters do not need oiling. They are a disposeable paper-type filter. The UNI or K&N Filters are serviceable.

Yeah, I wish I'd done a little more searching on here about pods. I know the K&N filters are costly, and the UNI's are bright red, which would stick out like a sore thumb on a black and chrome bike.
Happen to know any other brands?

Even jetted properly, I believe you will lose a little bottom end "snap"! But will pick up a little farther up the RPM range.

Well, if that's the case, I won't bother chasing it then. I'll take a little more on the top any day. Thanks Bluemeanie.

The tapered oval K&Ns are hard to beat.
You get what you pay for I guess.

Spend the money for the K&Ns.
I had a set of black & chrome UNI foam pods, the foam rotted and crumbled.
I had a set of Emgo pods like what you have there. They didn't flow worth a damn. Get 'em wet and they won't flow at all.
I got a pair of dual flange K&N pods and never looked back...

I had to buy the K+N for the Ninja. They are the only ones that will work. Very expensive. I had a member here that got me a decent price on the filters but they are still expensive.
I have used the Imgo filters for years. Just buy a set every year. I have two sets on my shelf now. Roy

I agree with all above, spend the money "one time" for the K&N's! Will last forever, carbs remove in 5 min, just make sure you provide some support for the carbs! I used mechanics wire from frame backbone to carbs. Don't let them just hang from the carb holders!
