carb synch issue
15 Sep 2007 16:06
Hi,
I am trying to manually synch the carbs from my 650 off of the bike. The manual says to use a .5 to 1 mm (.02 to .04 in )wire. The closest thing I could find is a 3/64" drill bit, which is close to about .035" on a feeler guage. The problem I am having is that I can't close the slide far enough to touch to drill bit. It feels like the needle is bottoming out in the jet before the slide goes down far enough to use the bit. Am I doing this wrong?
Thanks

Hello, maybe check your idle adjusting screw to see if it is keeping your throttle open a little. Just a thought.

I followed the directions for the carb bench sync from the filebase on this site and it said to use 1/4" drill bits. That's what I used and it worked great.

1/4" would make more sense. Where is the filebase you are talking about? I looked in the filebase in the 77 KZ650B section, and I couldn't find anything about carb adjustments...maybe I'm looking in the wrong place?

OK,
I understand using the bit for all to be the same. What side do I gap from? The intake side, or the engine side?

Carbs are synchronized..I adjusted the gap to about .75mm and it runs great. The drill bit trick worked great when they all slid out at the same time. I thought about maybe having them manometered, but the bike runs so good, why mess with it. Thanks for everyone's input on this.
