'81 KZ750-4 float level
10 Sep 2007 06:02
Can someone shed a little expertise on float levels? I am having problems with the engine only able to run with the choke fully closed or slightly open. There are no vacuum leaks and i completely cleaned the jets again paying special attention to the pilot jet circuit. Everything is clean. I measured the float levels and i found them slightly low. Book calls for 4mm +- 1mm.. I estimate that i am about 6-8 mm right now. I know that i have to bend the tangs on the floats. The question is:"Will the slightly low float level cause the problem that i am having?" Any info will help. Thanks

I'm thinking you mean the fuel level is 6-8 mm below the seam between carb body and bowl when measured using the tube method - see pic.
Since it should be 4mm or thereabouts I would say there is a very good chance that the low level is causing the problems described. Definitely worth a shot to try and get the fuel level within spec.

OK.Thanks. Now, what is the best way to bend the tangs to make sure they are all equal and so i don't have to assemble and reassemble multiple times?
