Running way too rich, what to do
09 Sep 2007 12:13
Hello. I am trying to dial in a set of 29 smoothbores. My setup is a stock 75 z900 new V&H 4 into one. Carbs are 29mm smoothbores with the bigger oval emgo pod cleanes. 120 main jets 20 pilots and have the needle in the 3rd clip. Hooked up a set of gauges and have them all breathing even. Bike starts and idles perfect but sputters going through the gears. Plugs foul out instantly(Black). What to do. thanks

Wiredgeorge is THE man to answer this question but have you checked voltage at the coils? WG's coil mod does wonders!

You can try #17.5 pilot jets and turn the air screws out 1/4 turn... if the plugs still soot up, the carbs either need cleaning OR you have a non-carb related issue causing the soot. Valve clearances, poor coil voltage, etc.
