New to KZ. Just found a nice 440 belt drive but where in the world can you find a belt?

First of all welcome to KZR. The belts on these bikes were made to last for quite a while and the 440's were not real high HP engines to begin with so odds are pretty good that unless your bike has a ton of miles you are probably ok with what you have on it now. You may still be able to order one from Kawasaki check with the dealer to be sure. There is a slight chance you might be able to get an NOS one from places that hoard vintage parts like these guys www.johnnysvintagemotorcycle.com/

If you have no luck locating a belt you can always convert it over to chain drive, everything you need is bolt on so you won't need to do any mods.

I'm no expert, so take this with a grain (or 2) of salt. It looks like 2 different belts were used, but I don't know what determined which belt they put on which bike. One belt has 125 teeth (59011-1001) and one has 129 (59011-1009). For some reason the 129 tooth belt looks to be about twice the cost of the other ($300 vs $150). Seems like a lot for 4 extra teeth, so there must be some other difference. You might want to start by counting the teeth on the current belt to see which part number you will need if you decide to replace it. Reference:

Thanks guys> I see that I posted in the wrong forum learning my way around. I did find a 125 for 125.00 and a 129 for 250.00. I agree that this belt looks good and it's reassuring that they last a long time.

I picked this bike up for 150.00

Just wondering, did you find the belt at a motorcycle shop or from a power transmission type of business that deals in belts, sheaves (pulleys), bearings, etc?

Welcome to the site! Nice to have you here.

I have never owned of seen a belt drive bike so do you think you could post a close up.

I always thought it should be a superior drive system in all ways including noise level, zero maintenance and clean. To bad they never made the KZ650 with belt drive... or am I missing some inherent weakness here ... any experts on this?

Again, welcome and best of success!

Any chance you can put your location in your signature?:) Its great for local help.
