The carb boots on the air box on my 84 GPz750 are falling apart from age. I picked up some air pod filters but I have stock carbs. I'll be glad when the air box is gone! Do I need to adjust the carbs?

84 GPZ750. Modded with stock Kawasaki parts: ZR-7 shock, ZX-6 coils, GPZ1100 throttle, EN454 brake, GPZ900 fuse box, etc. and non stock: Ken Sears mirrors, K&N filter, Pirelli Sport Demons.

Oh yeah. I ran pods on stock carbs. Nothing, and I mean nothingover 3K RPMs. As in the tach needle would not move. And those things howled like a banshee.
Loved the look and the sound, checked around, bought a jet kit, reinstalled the stock box until I could do it right.
Read about sidedraft problems and I go way too hard around the twisties where sudden crosswinds could affect me. I need smoothness big time.
Bought new boots, sold the pods and kit. Bought a K&N drop in, like it as well, and can get the airbox off really easy with the new boots.
From the wisdom of the elders here, you should need a 140 main jet and a 40 pilot jet for each carb. I would recommend all other jets and the float needles new too, or clean them up really really well, like mirror shine clean. Actually there is a guy on here who does the carbs the way you want them.

side drafts are an issue. when a big truck or whatever goes by you the bike will sputter sometimes. if possible, keep the airbox.
